Introduction
Punjab Institute of Management & Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh was established in 1997, first of its kind, conducting post graduate course in Management in the state of Punjab with 60 students. Over the decade, institute has transformed into the Center of Excellence and is imparting Quality Technical Education and running courses like MBA, MCA. The institute houses state of the art academic infrastructure. Campus is now vibrant with more than 450 students trying to attain excellence in technical skills and inculcate human and social values making them a true professional ready to face the global challenges.
Location and Accessibility
PIMT is centrally located in Mandi Gobindgarh on busy National Highway NH-1, an hour drive from Chandigarh Airport which is the nearest airport or from Ambala Cantt junction. The city is well connected by road, rail and air to almost any destination in India.

The infrastructure at PIMT has been created to provide the students the best education environment in the country. Over 7500 sq. metre of constructed space houses technologically advanced, fully air conditioned state of the art class rooms, modern laboratories, centralized digital library and computer centre. GESWT
Gobindgarh Educational and Social Welfare Trust is a nonprofit, non-proprietary educational body managed by professionals from various walks of life and runs the chain of institutes like PIMT, GPC, GCE and GPS.

Pride of institute is most modern digitized library which houses large volumes of books in the areas of Management and Information Technology. Library is fully air conditioned and is a hub around which all academic activities of the Institute revolve. It has seating capacity of more than 100 students. It also houses reprographics facilities. The library subscribes to national and international journals. The library also subscribe for e-journal through the consortium package of springer link & more than 1500 journals and e-books are accessible through this consortium to the students and faculty alike. Subscription to e-journals through consortium provides easy access to international journals in the field of management and technology.
Computer Centre & Laboratories
The institute has state of the art computing and hardware infrastructure and laboratories for fulfilling the needs of the students & faculty to keep it at par with the best institution in this region. The computer student ratio is highest at 1:2. Wide variety of software consisting of latest web development tools, data base tools, RDBMS Oracle 9i, SQL server 2000, market research, industry information tools, along with multimedia and office automation tools. The institute is proud of having an IBM pSeries 510 server with AIX 5.3 operating system and software, DB2 8.2 middleware and WAS 5.1 web software and especially trained and certified faculty by IBM to work on this software.
Department of Management
Department of Management provides a platform for pursuing academic excellence in the varied fields of management studies. The department is dedicated in achieving its aim of nurturing outstanding managers who can don the mantle of higher managerial responsibilities.
Our aim is to develop young managers with holistic understanding of the current scenario while striving to attain and maintain higher domains of consciousness and professional ethos. The department offers an interactive learning process through spontaneity in student-teacher relationship. The skills imparted here are in conformity with those demanded by the ever-changing corporate expectations. The industrial exposure along with innovative case studies, seminars and workshops vitally support the honing of the budding managers and provide them with the cutting edge know-how, a primary requisite of the new age manager.
The department offers full time four semester post graduate program in management with options of super specialization in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management and Information Technology. It also offers six semester full time under graduate program in management.
Course Content
MBA The Department of Management offers postgraduate program in Management with super specialization in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management and Information Technology. The whole program is divided into four semester modules with each module having minimum of 6 courses. The first two semesters are based on interactive learning interspersed with guest lectures and industrial visits. Assignments and functional projects provide the exposure necessitated by the globalized economy. The third semester commences after the completion of eight weeks of summer training followed by the submission of a detailed project report. This exercise provides an exposure to the practical aspects of the learning underlining the importance of corporate training in the functional learning. In the ensuing third and fourth semester, the students develop the skills specific to their opted super specialization, with more emphasis on their core recognition.
Department of Information Technology
The aim of the department is to develop technocrats with international perspective who can manage computer application and IT, strategically in order to ensure organizational competence and growth in a dynamic technological environment. Exhaustive theoretical with hands on training in the laboratories and dedicated project work ensures that students not only attain excellent technical skills but also develop the traits of life long learning and learning to learn so that they meet the challenges and opportunities in ever changing digital scenario.
The department offers six semester full time post graduate program in computer application and also offers six semester full time under graduate program in computer applications.
Course Content
MCA The department offers post graduate program in computer applications. The program is divided into six semester modules. Each module consist of a minimum of five theoretical subjects and two laboratory works. To meet the expectations of industry, the complete sixth semester is reserved for industry oriented major project and the students are made to work on a dedicated project which is required to be completed in six months.
The faculty at PIMT are its greatest strength. Drawn from diverse backgrounds from all over the country, over 30 faculty members are not only the expert in their respective field of interest but also enhance their skills through faculty development programs and constantly redefining their technical skills. This translates into an education of high quality that is delivered at individualized personal level. Our faculty take part in a unique mentorship program targeted at maximizing the educational advantages that PIMT students enjoy. Our faculty is an amalgam of talent, competency & enthusiasm. We have a judicious blend of expertise and experience. The faculty has several national & international publications to their credit. We not only impart management concepts by using audio video aids, but also lay ample stress on personality development and human values, grooming the students for a bright and successful future.
Facilities
Hostel Institute provides separate hostel facility for boys and girls in the campus for 200 students. The hostel is well equipped with all the modern facilities and amenities to provide the students a congenial environment away from home. To ensure that students have access to information highway all the time, internet connectivity has been provided in each room in the hostel.
Canteen Canteen-the junction for many a discussion, games and fun is the quintessential part of PIMT life. The institute runs a delectable treat for the students in shape of a healthy and hygienic canteen. Not only the food is very delicious but also with the continuous food monitoring, the students don’t have to worry about their hunger pangs.
Auditorium Kanhaya Lal Bardeja Auditorium is extensively used for conduct of national and international level seminars, workshops, convocations, corporate day etc. by the institute. The auditorium has a seating capacity of 1000 and is a pride of GESWT.
Institute Bus Service The Institute provides dedicated bus service to the students who prefer to stay out in the nearby cities due to their personal reasons. The bus service is designed to cater to the demands of the students for which the students are required to pay nominal bus fees. Students are picked up from all major locations like Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali, Patiala, Rajpura, Sirhind, Khanna, Nabha, Mandi Gobindgarh, Fatehgarh Sahib & Ludhiana.
Medical Aid Centre The institute is very particular about the health of students. Regular medical check-ups are organized for this purpose. Institute has a medical check-up centre where doctor is available. For specialized medical attention or for urgent medical attention during off working hours, the institute has tied up with M/s Kaushal Nursing Home, Mandi Gobindgarh.
Extra and co-curricular activities have been the hallmark of PIMT. These activities are organized around the year and provide the students a platform to showcase their potentials apart from the routine academic activities.
Clubs The institute has formed various clubs. It is obligatory for every student to join one club. Techies Club is proving a big boon for the budding Information Technologists and die hard software developers. It has more than 100 student members and is being looked after by Senior Network Administrator. Club is also providing mentor based training to the students to prepare for certifications like MCSE, CCNA. Dance Club has attracted more than 40 students under the guidance of faculty members and are getting training in Western, Punjabi Folk and Indian Classical dances. Experts from outside are also called to provide valuable tips. It regularly organizes intra group competitions. Music club provides instrumental and vocal training to the students under the guidance of music teacher. In Dramatics club students are given knowledge of all the theatrical aspects may it be direction, acting, dialogue delivery, lighting system, stage settings etc. Cookery club has many girl students learning the skills of preparing variety of dishes/recipes. It also helps in developing the concept of home management and time management. Debate club is concentrating on acquiring better communication skills. Regular debate sessions are held on current issues. Besides debates, GDs are also organized. In Fine arts club various types of painting is being taught to the students. Other activities of the club are Rangoli, Mehndi, Flower arrangement, Cartooning and Sketches.
Aaftaab Aaftaab is a one-day cultural festival, organized annually by the Institute. The fest is a medium of interface between the institute and all the institutes of Northern region. It generates an overwhelming response from the on-campus students as well as the students from outside. The students of PIMT largely do the event management for Aaftab. Aaftab is arrayed with a superb medley of contests for budding artists, cultural connoisseurs and literary genius.
Foreign Languages The institute has made special arrangements to be multilingual in the global era. Regular classes are being held in French /German. Special Lab to improve communication skills and command over English and coaching facility for IELTS test.
Sports To develop the spirit of healthy competition, disciplined approach and mental and physical toughness among the students of this institute, sports activities like Hockey, Football, Cricket, Volleyball and Basketball as out door events and Badminton, Table tennis, Chess, Carrom as Indoor events are regularly organized. Inter class competitions in these events are held through out the year as per academic calender of the institute. The first ever Annual Athletic Meet of PIMT was conducted in April 2006.
Miscellaneous Activities Teej celebration : To uphold the spirit of traditions and heritage, a Teej Festival is organized in the campus during Monsoon.
The institute presented a colourful atmosphere of bonhomie all around. Picnic: The students of various classes organized picnics to various hill resorts of North India. Students visited Mussorie, Kasauli, Chail, Shimla etc. The students did trekking and visited all the important landmarks in and around these places. Blood donation camp : Commemorating the World blood donation day, the institute organized a blood donation camp. Blood donation camp has been an annual feature of the institute.

Special emphasis is laid on developing soft skills and team spirit. They are also taught to inculcate qualities like honesty, integrity and social ethics. The placement through campus is assured to every student under going post graduate course in this institute. The department also arranges industrial training for students. Large number of students gets the opportunity to undergo training in MNC and reputed industries / software firms like TATA Infocom, Reliance Infocom, VSNL, TCS etc. The department also arranges industrial visits and guest lectures of eminent personalities of industry and academia.
Corporate Day The industry - institute interaction which is so vital in meeting the technological development of the institute and meeting the expectation of the industry is a regular affair in this institute.
Senior executives of reputed organizations, during this function, interact with the faculty and students. This year six senior executives from major industrial houses and financial institutions presented the case studies.
Industrial Visits Frequent industrial visits are organized for the students in the various industries to expose them to the industrial work culture and environment. The senior students of MBA and MCA programs also visited India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi in Nov 2006.
Recruitment Week Though this institute has excellent placement record of students through campus in the reputed industry / software houses and in MNCs, to achieve 100% placement & better pay package, recruitment week was conducted in February 2007, first of its kind in this region. The campus recruitment week is now planned to be the regular affair of the institute’s activity.
